The Misanthrope at the New York Theatre Workshop

New York Theatre Workshop presents Molire's comedy The Misanthrope, adapted by Tony Harrison, opening at the New York Theatre Workshop on 24 Sep 2007, following previews from 14 Sep and running through to 11 Nov 2007.

The Misanthrope: Alceste is a reasonably successful playwright, who is disillusioned with the artificial and shallow world he inhabits. He no longer wishes to indulge in false niceties and becomes determined to speak with uninvited candour to all around him, with little regard for the consequences. Lawsuits and failed declarations of love ensue, as his honesty threatens to make him a social outcast.

Directed by Ivo van Hove, The Misanthrope features Quincy Tyler Bernstine (Eliante), Jason C. Brown (Clitandre), Bill Camp (Alceste), Florencia Lozano (Arsinoe), Joan MacIntosh (Acaste), Alfredo Narciso (Oronte), Thomas Jay Ryan (Philinte) and Jeanine Serralles (Celimene).

The design team comprises Jan Versweyveld (sets), Emilio Sosa (costumes) an Raul Vincent Enriquez (sound).
