The Keen Company announces 2014/2015 Season
The Obie Award-winning Keen Company has announced its upcoming 2014/15 season, which will include two productions: the first New York revival of A Walk In The Woods by Lee Blessing, and the 20th Anniversary production of Andrew Lippa and Tom Greenwald's musical John & Jen. Both productions will be directed by Keen's Artistic Director Jonathan Silverstein and both will be staged at Theatre Row's Clurman Theatre.
A Walk In The Woods will begin performances on 9 September 2014, before officially opening on 30 September, and will conclude its limited engagement on 18 October 2014.
A Walk In The Woods is "a debate on the hope and ultimate futility of high-stakes politics. Two super power arms negotiators - one a cynical Russian veteran and the other an idealistic American newcomer - meet informally in the woods after long, frustrating hours at the bargaining table. The play is a fictionalized account of the meeting between Paul Nitze and Yuli Kvitsinsky, who took a 'walk in the woods' during the 1982 Geneva peace talks and came up with their own deal, which was later turned down by the United States and the Soviet Union."
The cast includes Tony Nominee Kathleen Chalfant and Paul Niebanck, and the creative team features scenic design by Scott Bradley, lighting by Josh Bradford, costumes by Jennifer Paar, and sound design by M.L. Dogg.
John & Jen, which features music by Andrew Lippa and lyrics by Tom Greenwald, will begin performances on 10 February 2015, before officially opening on 3 March, and will conclude its limited engagement on 22 March 2015.
"In a changing America between 1950 and 1990, John & Jen is a musical about brothers and sisters and parents and children. It tells the story of Jen and her relationships with the two Johns of her life: her younger brother, and his namesake, her son who is trying to find his way in a confusing world. This is a story about connections, commitments and the healing of the human heart."
