Sweet Mama Stringbean at the Abrons Arts Center


Woodie King Jr's New Federal Theatre present Sweet Mama Stringbean -based on the life of Ethel Waters, the legendary star of stage, film and television, a musical by by Beth Turner, opening at the Henry Street Settlement's Abrons Arts Center on 9 Apr 2008, following previews from 3 Apr and running through to 27 Apr 2008.

Sweet Mama Stringbean: Aging and severely overweight, legendary stage and film star Ethel Waters is faced with a waning career and the prospect of an impoverished old age, when, a dream of a childhood spiritual awakening opens her to a new future with the Billy Graham Crusade.

Directed by Elizabeth Van Dyke, Sweet Mama Stringbean features Cjay Hardy Philip, Marishka Shanice Phillips, Sandra Reaves-Phillips, Gary E. Vincent and Darryl Jovan Williams.

The creative team features Ademola Olugebefola (sets), Carolyn Adams (costumes), Shirley Prendergast (lighting) and Sean O'Halloran (sound).
