South Asian production of Death of a Salesman
A new off-Broadway production of Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman will be presented by Always Love Lucy Theatre at the Roy Arias Studios Stage IV from 19 - 29 June 2014, with an official opening night on 22 June.
This new production is a South Asian interpretation of the classic American play, and features a South Asian cast as the Lowman family, including: Vishaal Reddy (Willy Loman), Saima Huq (Linda Loman), Sagar Kiran Patel (Biff Loman), Rahul Rai (Happy Loman), Harsh Lochan (Uncle Ben/Happy Loman understudy), Danea Robinson (Ms Francis understudy), Stephanie Uttro (Ms Francis), Tommy Bernardi (Bernard), Brandon Reimer (Bernard understudy/Stanley understudy), Christopher Romero Wilson (Charley), Jim Cairl (Charley understudy), Maite Uzal (Jenny), Charlie Gorrilla (Howard Wagner), Vincent Bivona (Stanley), Amanda Rose Antonucci (Miss Forsyth), Lauren Gralton (Miss Forsyth understudy), Rachel Neiheisel (Letta) and Rebeca Fong (Letta understudy).
Death of a Salesman won the 1949 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Play. It concerns the Lowman family and father Willy Lowman's attempts to provide for his family and hang onto the 'American Dream'. This new production will uses all of the original setting, year and dialogue, while changing the Lomans to South Asians to demonstrate the universal themes that the play presents, including complicated family relationships, disappointment in life choices, and the ability to misunderstand and be unable to help someone you have known your entire life.
The production will be directed by Juan Reinoso and feature set design by Debbie deVilla and Justin Tolbert. Lighting and sound design is by Vince Allen, with costumes by Laura Arcieri.
