Rapture, Bliss, Burn: Amy Brenneman to star

Playwrights Horizons' (PH) have announced that five-time Emmy Award nominee Amy Brenneman ("Private Practice," "Judging Amy") will star in the world premiere of Rapture, Bliss, Burn, written by Pulitzer Prize finalist and Obie Award winner Gina Gionfriddo (Becky Shaw).

The comedy opens at Playwrights Horizons' Mainstage on 12 Jun 2012, following previews from 18 May 2012, and closing on 24 Jun 2012.

Directed by Peter DuBois (Becky Shaw, Sons of the Prophet), the cast will also feature Beth Dixon (Wings, Vieux Carre', Virginia Kull (Assistance at PH. Broadway: Man and Boy, Dividing the Estate), Kellie Overbey (The Savannah Disputation and Betty's Summer Vacation at PH. Broadway: 'The Coast of Utopia') and Lee Tergesen (Good Boys and True, The Exonerated).

Rapture, Bliss, Burn: After grad school, Catherine (Amy Brenneman) and Gwen (Kellie Overbey) chose polar opposite paths. Catherine built a career as a rockstar academic, while Gwen built a home with her husband and children. Decades later, unfulfilled in polar opposite ways, each woman covets the other's life, commencing a dangerous game of musical chairs - the prize being Gwen's husband (Lee Tergesen).

The production will feature scenic design by Alexander Dodge, costume design by Mimi O'Donnell, lighting design by Jeff Croiter and sound design by M.L. Dogg.

Rapture, Bliss, Burn was commissioned by Playwrights Horizons with funds from the Harold and Mimi Steinberg Charitable Trust.
