Punk Rock extends to 14 Dec 2014 at the Lucille Lortel
MCC Theater have announced that their current production of Punk Rock, written by Simon Stephens and directed by Trip Cullman, has extended its limited run at the Lucille Lortel Theatre by one week and will now play its final performance on 14 December. The show officially opened on 17 November, following previews from 29 October 2014.
Inspired by playwright Simon Stephens' own experiences as a teacher, Punk Rock is described as "an unnerving chronicle of contemporary adolescence at the breaking point". In a private school outside of Manchester, England a group of highly-articulate seventeen year-olds flirt and posture their way through the day while preparing for their A-Level mock exams. With hormones raging and minimal adult supervision, nothing can mask the underlying tension that becomes increasingly pronounced as the clock ticks towards the ultimate dismissal.
The cast for the production includes Douglas Smith, Pico Alexander, Lilly Englert, Annie Funke, David Greenspan, Colby Minifie, Will Pullen, and Noah Robbins.
Playwright Simon Stephens' is currently represented on Broadway with the Olivier Award winning The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time , which officially opened at the Barrymore Theatre on 5 October 2014.
