Pumpgirl - announces full cast - Hannah Cabell, Geraldine Hughes and Paul Sparks

The Manhattan Theatre Club has announced the complete cast for their American premiere production of Pumpgirl by Abbie Spallen, opening at New York City Center Stage II on 4 Dec 2007, following previews from 10 Nov and running through to 13 Jan 2008.

Directed by Carolyn Cantor, the cast will feature: Hannah Cabell, Geraldine Hughes and Paul Sparks.

Pumpgirl: A tale of three lives colliding in rural Ireland. The play unfolds with the story of a homely, tomboyish pump girl (Hannah Cabell) at a rundown gas station. When a local racetrack star (Paul Sparks) becomes the focus of her obsession, the affair threatens more than the feelings of his disenchanted wife (Geraldine Hughes).

The creative team for Pumpgirl includes David Korins (set), Mimi ODonnell (costume), David Weiner (lighting) and Robert Kaplowitz (sound).

Hannah Cabell (Pumpgirl) played the title role in 'Jane Eyre' earlier this year, in which she received positive reviews - the New York Times said "Hannah Cabell... delivers a marvelously contained performance of an almost pathologically restrained woman who refuses to let down her guard."

Geraldine Hughes (Sinead) made her Broadway debut earlier this year as Bridget in the MTC's revival of Brian Friel's 'Translations'. She starred, as Marie, along side Sylvester Stallone in the movie Rocky Balboa.

Paul Sparks (Hammy) off-Broadway credits include: Essential Self-Defense (2007) and Landscape of the Body (2006).

Abbie Spallen (Playwright). In November 2005, Abbie was awarded the Dublin City Council Bursary for Literature and she made the Sunday Tribune's annual "Most promising young people in Irish Theatre" list in 2002. She is currently under commission at the Bush and Fishamble Theatre Company, Dublin.

Carolyn Cantor (Director) made her Broadway directional debut with 'The Smell of the Kill' (2002). Off-Broadway credits include 'In a Dark Dark House' (2007), 'Essential Self-Defense' (2007) and Eve-olution (2004).
