Playwrights Horizons announces cast of The Profane

Playwrights Horizons has announced complete casting for its final production of the 2016-2017 season at the Peter Jay Sharp Theater. The Profane, a new play by Zayd Dohrn, begins previews on March 17, 2017, before an official opening on April 9 and a limited engagement through to April 30, 2017.

The cast of The Profane includes (in alphabetical order) Tala Ashe (Emina), Francis Benhamou (Aisa/Dania), Ramsey Faragallah (Peter), Ali Reza Farahnakian (Raif), Lanna Joffrey (Carmen), Heather Raffo (Naja) and Babak Tafti (Sam).

Synopsis: "Safe in the liberal fortress of Manhattan, Raif Almedin is a first-generation immigrant who prides himself on his modern, enlightened views. But when his daughter falls for the son of a conservative Muslim family in White Plains, he discovers the threshold of his tolerance. Two families are forced to confront each other's religious beliefs and cultural traditions, and to face their own deep-seated prejudice."

The creative team behind The Profane has also been announced and features scenic design by Takeshi Kata, costume design by Jessica Pabst, lighting design by Matt Frey and sound design by Brandon Wolcott.

In Playwrights Horizons' Mainstage Theater, The Light Years, written by Hannah Bos & Paul Thureen and directed by Oliver Butler, begins previews on February 17, before an official opening on March 13 and a limited engagement through to April 2.
