Passion: CSC announce complete cast

The Classic Stage Company (CSC) have announced the complete casting for the company's upcoming new production of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Tony Award-winning musical Passion, to be directed by John Doyle (director of the Broadway revivals of Sondheim's 'Sweeney Todd' and 'Company').

Joining previously announced Tony Award-nominee Melissa Errico (Amour) as 'Clara,' Tony Award-nominee Judy Kuhn ('She Loves Me,' 'Chess,' 'Les Misérables') as 'Fosca' and Ryan Silverman (The Phantom of the Opera) as 'Giorgio' are Tony Award-nominee Stephen Bogardus (Love! Valour! Compassion!) as 'Colonel Ricci,' Jeffry Denman (Irving Berlin's White Christmas) as 'Lieutenant Barri,' Jason Michael Evans as 'Private Augenti,' Ken Krugman (Assassins) as 'Lieutenant Torasso,' Orville Mendoza (Pacific Overtures) as 'Sergeant Lombardi,' Tom Nelis (Enron) as 'Doctor Tambourri' and Will Reynolds (Major Rizzoli/Ludovic).

Passion will open at at the Classic Stage Company on 28 Feb 2013, following previews from 07 Feb 2013, and running through to 07 Apr 2013.

Set in 19th century Italy, Passion concerns Captain Giorgio Bachetti, a military hero, transferred to a strange and remote Italian outpost. Far away from his beloved Clara, he encounters Fosca, the cousin of his commanding officer, and her influence has shattering and inconceivable consequences.

The musical feature score and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a book by James Lapine. The production is directed and designed by John Doyle, with costumes by Ann Hould-Ward, lighting by Jane Cox and sound by Dan Moses Schreier.

Passion opened on Broadway in May of 1994 and received the Tony Award that year for Best Musical. Directed by James Lapine, it starred Donna Murphy as 'Fosca,' Marin Mazzie as 'Clara' and Jere Shea as 'Giorgio.'
