On The Twentieth Century starring Kristin Chenoweth

The Roundabout Theatre Company will produce a revival of On The Twentieth Century at the American Airlines Theatre from 12 Feb 2015 for a 20 week limited period through July 5, 2015.

The revival will star Tony Award winner Kristin Chenoweth in the role of Lily Garland, alongside Peter Gallagher as Oscar Jaffee. The musical features music by CY Coleman and book and lyrics by Betty Comden & Adolph Green and is based on plays by Ben Hecht, Charles MacArthur and Bruce Mullholland.

Roundabout Associate Artistic Director Scott Ellis will collaborate once again with choreographer Warren Carlyle following their successful 2012 production of 'The Mystery of Edwin Drood'. The production will feature set design by David Rockwell, costumes by William Ivey Long and lighting design by Donald Holder.

On The Twentieth Century is a musical comedy set aboard a luxury coach travelling from Chicago to New York City. Bankrupt theatre producer Oscar Jaffe attempts to cajole the glamorous Hollywood icon Lily Garland into playing the lead in his brand new, and currently non-existent, epic drama. Will the train ride be long enough to re-ignite the passion between the former lovers, write a play from scratch as well as finding the money to get the show to the Great White Way?

The original Broadway production opened at the St James Theatre in February 1978, directed by Harold Prince, where it ran for 449 performances. It won Tony Awards for Best Original Score and Best Book of a Musical.

Kristin Chenoweth is a star of both stage and screen whose career covers musicals, dramas and comedy. She starred in the original Broadway production of 'Wicked', creating the role of Glinda the Good Witch for which she was nominated for a Tony Award. She won the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for her role as Sally Brown in the 1999 revival of 'You're a Good Man Charlie Brown'. She returned to Broadway opposite Sean Hayes in 'Promises Promises'. Her television credits include recurring roles in 'Pushing Daisies' for which she won an Emmy Award, and 'Glee'.

Peter Gallagher last appeared on Broadway in Mike Nichols' 2008 production of 'The Country Girl' alongside Frances McDormand and Morgan Freeman. He made his Broadway debut in the first revival of 'Hair' and then joined the original Broadway production of 'Grease' in the role of Danny Zuko. His television roles include Arthur Campbell in the international spy drama 'Covert Affairs', a recurring role in the first season of 'Mark and Jay Duplass' and a new comedy for HBO, 'Togetherness'. He has previously been seen in 'The OC', 'Californication', 'Rescue Me' 'How I Met Your Mother' and The Nick Kroll Show for Comedy Central.

Tickets to On The Twentieth Century are currently available to Roundabout subscribers and donors only. General public booking will open in summer 2014.
