National tour of ‘A Christmas Carol’ to play theatres in 2021
Jack Thorne's adaptation of the joyous classic will play in Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
The Broadway production of A Christmas Carol will tour in 2021, with performances in Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
Producer Tom Smedes said of the show's return: "We look forward to this tour and to being back on Broadway again during the Christmas season of 2021. We are also thrilled that our partners at The Old Vic Theatre are able to perform A Christmas Carol this year as part of their In Camera Initiative. They will play a live, full-scale production to an empty theater from December 12th through 24th that can then be streamed online."
A Christmas Carol follows Ebenezer Scrooge as he's joined by ghostly, festive spirits. The Charles Dickens novel is adapted for the stage by Jack Thorne, with carols including "Joy to the World" and "Silent Night".
First performed at the Old Vic in London, A Christmas Carol transferred to Broadway's Lyceum Theatre in 2019. The cast included Campbell Scott as Ebenezer Scrooge, Andrea Martin as the Ghost of Christmas Past and LaChanze as the Ghost of Christmas Present and Mrs Fezziwig.
In a review for New York Theatre Guide, Tulis McCall said: "this nimble cast unwraps a story of redemption as if it were a 19th century confection of supreme value. Which, of course it is. From the minute you enter the theatre this company welcomes you with the simplest of gifts: a story to tell and the joy of the telling."
