Nancy Opel to star in Curvy Widow at Westside Theatre
Tony nominee Nancy Opel will star in the new musical comedy Curvy Widow, which begins previews upstairs at the Westside Theatre on July 20, 2017, before an official opening on August 3 and an open-ended engagement.
Curvy Widow features a book by Bobby Goldman, with music & lyrics by Drew Brody and is directed by Peter Flynn.
Synopsis: "This new musical comedy takes us through the semi-autobiographical adventures of a gutsy, recently widowed 50-something woman as she immerses herself in the modern dating scene. From exploring internet personal ads and surviving hilarious first dates, to weighing the pros and cons of married vs unmarried men, this widow romps her way through it all with humor and perseverance, and discovers unexpected truths about love, life and sex. Featuring a cast of best friends, a dead husband, and a myriad of potential suitors - Curvy learns the hard way what it means to start life over in the modern age."
Joining Nany Opel (as Curvy Widow) in the cast will be Andrea Bianchi, Aisha de Haas, Elizabeth Ward Land, Ken Land, Alan Muraoka and Chris Shyer.
The creative team behind Curvy Widow features musical direction by Andrew Sotomayor, orchestrations, arrangements & music supervision by Wayne Barker, choreography by Marcos Santana, scenic design by Rob Bissinger, costume design by Brian Hemesath, lighting design by Matthew Richards and sound design by Ryan Rumery and M. Florian Staab.
Curvy Widow is produced off-Broadway by Jayne Baron Sherman, Trish Santini/Jennifer Melin Miller and Allen & Marie Wolpert by arrangement with Raoulfilm.
Nancy Opel earned a Tony nomination in 2002 for her performance as Penelope Pennywise in 'Urinetown.' Her other Broadway credits include 'Beautiful,' 'Honeymoon in Vegas,' 'Memphis,' 'Gypsy,' 'Fiddler on the Roof,' 'Triumph of Love,' 'Anything Goes,' 'Sunday in the Park with George,' and 'Evita,' among others.
