Montavlo to take over for Andréa Burns in On Your Feet!
Andréa Burns will play her final performance as Gloria Fajardo (the mother of Gloria Estefan) in the Broadway production of On Your Feet! The Story of Emilio and Gloria Estefan at the Marquis Theatre on February 5, 2017. Original cast member Doreen Montavlo will take over the role from February 7.
Ms Montavlo's other notable theatre credits include the Broadway production of 'In the Heights,' the Public Theater production of 'Giant' and the National Tour of 'Flashdance The Musical.'
The principal cast of On Your Feet! currently includes Ana Villafañe (Gloria Estefan), Ektor Rivera (Emilio Estefan), Andréa Burns (Gloria Fajardo), Alma Cuervo (Consuelo), Alexandria Suarez/Fabi Aguirre (Little Gloria) and Eduardo Hernandez/Kevin Tellez (Nayib/Young Emilio).
On Your Feet! officially opened to positive reviews on November 5, 2015, following previews from October 5, and is currently booking through to August 20, 2017.
On Your Feet! is directed by Jerry Mitchell, and features a book by Alexander Dinelaris, music & lyrics by Emilio and Gloria Estefan, and choreography by Sergio Trujillo.
Synopsis: "On Your Feet! is the story of two people who — through an unwavering dedication to one another and their pursuit of the American dream — showcased their talent, their music and their heritage to the world in a remarkable rise to global superstardom. The musical is set to Gloria's chart-topping, smash hits such as 'Rhythm Is Gonna Get You,' 'Conga,' '1-2-3,' 'Get On Your Feet,' 'Don't Want To Lose You Now,' and 'Coming Out Of The Dark,' in addition to an original song written by Gloria and their daughter Emily Estefan."
On Your Feet! features scenic design by David Rockwell, costumes by Emilio Sosa, lighting by Kenneth Posner, sound design by Steve Kennedy, projections by Darrel Maloney, hair & wig design by Chuck LaPointe, music direction by Lon Hoyt, orchestrations by Gloria Estefan and Emilio Estefan, and dance arrangements and dance orchestrations by Oscar Hernandez.
The musical is produced by James L. Nederlander and Estefan Enterprises, Inc. in partnership with Bernie Yuman.
