Middle of the Night was the first Chayefsky play to premiere on Broadway in 1956. Other Broadway productions of his plays include 'The Tenth Man' (Tony-nomination) 'Gideon' (Tony-nomination), 'The Passion of Josef D.' and 'A Catered Affair.'

Chayefsky won Academy Wards for his screenplays "Network," "The Hospital" and "Marty," and was nominated for a further Academy Award for "The Goddess."
