Wed 12 Nov 2003 Micky Dolenz joins AIDA from 6 Jan 2004 Micky Dolenz , lead singer of the group The Monkees, will play the role of 'Zoser' in Aida at the Palace Theatre from 6 Jan 2004. Micky Dolenz previously played the role of Zoser in the national touring company of 'Aida.' In addition to the sixties TV show that made the group famous, Micky Dolenz's theatrical work includes the national touring company of Grease (Vince Fontaine), A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum (Pseudolus), Harry Nilssons The Point (The Count's Kid) and Tom Sawyer (Huckleberry Finn). Micky also wrote the book for, and directed, Bugsy Malone on the London stage. He has continued to tour over the years as a solo artist, and with his former bandmates. Dolenz will join co-stars Michelle T. Williams of Destiny's Child, Will Chase, and Lisa Brescia. Aida began performances at the Palace Theatre on 25 February 2000 and officially opened on 23 March 2000. It has music by Elton John, Lyrics by Tim Rice, Book by Linda Woolverton, Robert Fells and David Henry Hwang. It is directed by Robert Fells, designed by Bob Crowley, lighting by Natahsa Katz, choreography by Wayne Cilento, and produced by Disney Theatrical Productions. The tale of Aida, made famous by Verdi's 1871 opera. Prince falls in love with Nubian slave, angering his father and his fiance, Amneris.
