Lone Star Love cancells Broadway engagement!
The production of Lone Star Love, currently playing an engagement at Seattles 5th Avenue Theatre, has canceled its Broadway engagement this fall.
The production had been previously announced to open at the Belasco Theatre on 3 Dec 2007, following previews from 1 Nov 2007, and had been selling tickets through to 29 Jun 2008.
Lone Star Love will continue performances at The 5th Avenue Theatre through to 30 Sep 2007 as scheduled, for a total of 11 previews and 15 regular performances.
Academy Award-nominee Randy Quaid was to have made his Broadway debut as Colonel John Falstaff in the production. There has been no reason offered for the cancellation, though press rumours claim that Quaid's wife, Evie - who also acts as his manager, has been at odds with the show's producers. Though whether this was the cause of the Broadway cencellation is only speculation.
The musical, directed by Randy Skinner, was also to have featured Robert Cuccioli (Frank Ford), Dee Hoty (Margaret Anne Page), Lauren Kennedy (Agnes Ford), Clarke Thorell (Fenton), Ramona Keller (Miss Quickly), Drew McVety (Doctor Caius), Dan Sharkey (George Page), Kara Lindsay (Miss Anne Page), Nick Sullivan (Sheriff Bob Shallow) and Brandon Williams (Abraham Slender).
The musical comedy is inspired by Shakespeares The Merry Wives of Windsor transplanted to post-Civil War Texas. Confederate "Colonel" John Falstaff slathers his charms on the wives of two wealthy cattle ranchers, with an eye on their husbands' land and money. But whos fooling whom?
Lone Star Love, has a book by John L. Haber, with music and lyrics by Jack Herrick.
Lone Star Love played off-Broadway at the John Houseman Theatre from 8 Dec 2004 - 6 Feb 2005, directed by Michael Bogdanov.
Lone Star Love's creative team includes Derek McLane (sets), Jane Greenwood (costumes), Ken Billington & Paul Miller (lighting) and Tom Morse (sound).
The musical was to have been produced on Broadway by Avenue A Productions, Roger Berlind, Robert Boyett Theatricals, Edmund and Eleanor Burke, Rusty and Susan Carter, Jon and Jeanne Cutler, Daisy Theatricals, and Michael Speyer/Bernard Abrams.
