Laurie Metcalf to star in ‘Little Bear Ridge Road’ on Broadway
The Emmy and Tony-winning actress will return to the stage in a new play by Samuel D. Hunter, reprising her performance from the show’s Chicago world premiere.
Laurie Metcalf and Micah Stock will return to Broadway this fall in Little Bear Ridge Road, a new play written by Samuel D. Hunter and directed by Joe Mantello. Performances begin at the Booth Theatre on October 7 ahead of an October 30 opening night.
Metcalf is best known for her Tony Award-winning Broadway performances in Three Tall Women and A Doll's House, Part 2, alongside four other Tony-nominated performances, and her Emmy-winning onscreen performances in Roseanne and Hacks. She and Tony Award nominee Stock (It's Only a Play) first starred in Little Bear Ridge Road’s 2024 world premiere in Chicago, presented by Steppenwolf, a theatre company with which Metcalf frequently performs.
Also reprising their performances from the Steppenwolf production are John Drea as James and Meighan Gerachis as Paulette.
Hunter, known for writing the award-winning play The Whale that became an Oscar-winning film starring Brendan Fraser, sets nearly all his plays in his home state of Idaho. Little Bear Ridge Road, his Broadway-debut show, is no different, following two estranged family members: a sharp-tongued aunt Sarah (Metcalf) and her nephew Ethan (Stock). They reunite to sort out the aftermath of a troubled father’s passing, and they must figure out how to begin their relationship anew — slowly discovering the joys and dangers of doing so.
Joe Mantello (Wicked on Broadway) last directed Metcalf in Grey House on Broadway, another Chicago transfer, in 2023. They have collaborated a total of seven times, including Little Bear Ridge Road.
The creative team for Little Bear Ridge Road includes set designer Scott Pask, costume designer Jessica Pabst, lighting designer Heather Gilbert, and sound designer Mikhail Fiksel.
News of Little Bear Ridge Road’s Broadway premiere was first teased in a March 2025 article in The New York Times.
