The world premiere is scheduled for 2022.
Further creatives for The Devil Wears Prada musical have been confirmed today. Broadway actress and writer Kate Wetherhead will co-write the production along with playwright Paul Rudnick.
Joining The Devil Wears Prada team, Wetherhead said: "I am thrilled and honored to have joined the Prada team... I can't wait to help bring this iconic story to Broadway and beyond."
Wetherhead is best known for writing and starring in the web series Submissions Only, starring Santino Fontana, Jared Gertner and Annaleigh Ashford. On Broadway, she's also appeared in Legally Blonde and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.
She is now part of a team including her co-writer Paul Rudnick, who wrote the original screenplay for the Sister Act film, starring Whoopi Goldberg. Music by Elton John, lyrics by Shaina Taub, direction by Anna D. Shapiro and choreography by James Alsop.
Shapiro commented that: "From the beginning, the Prada team has been incredible. To now be able to add Kate, who is both an extraordinary writer and a musical theatre genius, is more than I could have dreamed. Kate adds a deft and original touch to this iconic work and it's been a joy watching her make it her own."
Based on Lauren Weisberger's 2003 novel and the subsequent film starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway, The Devil Wears Prada follows a young writer making her way at a fashion magazine. The musical will make its world premiere at the James M. Nederlander Theatre in Chicago from July 19 - August 21, 2022, ahead of a Broadway transfer. Beth Leavel will play Miranda Priestly, with Taylor Iman Jones as Andy.
Further casting for The Devil Wears Prada is to be announced, as well as a Broadway opening date and venue.
