"Just The Front" by Stone Soup Theatre Arts from 11 Mar 2004
Fri 13 Feb 2004 "Just The Front" by Stone Soup Theatre Arts from 11 Mar 2004 Just The Front, by Stone Soup Theatre Arts, at American Theatre of Actors, Beckman Theatre, 314 West 54th Street, (Off Broadway), from 11 to 20 Mar 2004. Directed by Nadine Friedman, it is set in 1930's America and follows four individuals in a time plagued by economic uncertainty. The play, created by the ensemble through research, improvisation and workshop, juxtaposes today's knowledge of economic recession, labor standards and sexual and racial politics with moments leading up to December 7th, 1941. This allegorical production aims to find a link between then and now, featuring universal characters - their journeys and destinations, their problems and solutions. "As has become tradition in Stone Soup's work, the play features period as well as anachronistic music. A band, composed of a guitar, clarinet and two vocalists, along with a radio announcer, provide narration that links the audience to the world onstage. Friedman's production combines the elements of music, determined dialogue, historical facts and striking visual imagery to make this piece entertaining and educational. Stone Soup's mission is to inspire action through entertainment and to make the theatrical world relate to the lives of their audience: this play does just that." Stone Soup Theatre Arts was founded in 2001 by a group of like-minded artists in order to produce published and original socially conscious works.
