"Can you believe?" Following the Netflix release of The Prom on December 11, Jonathan Van Ness will host a virtual prom this weekend. The Prom: Tonight Belongs To You will include musical performances, as well as special appearances from The Prom cast, available to watch on December 19.

One-fifth of the Netflix Queer Eye's group, Jonathan Van Ness has become a popular television popularity, championing LGBTQ+ rights. Speaking about the event, Van Ness said: "Prom is such a special event for most people, and I can't be more excited to be hosting... so we can build a prom for everyone. Everyone deserves to be celebrated, loved and appreciated!"

As well as Van Ness hosting, he'll be joined by musical guests Janelle Monáe and Galantis for live DJ sets. The cast of The Prom will also feature, including Meryl Streep, James Corden, Nicole Kidman, Keegan-Michael Key, Andrew Rannells and Kerry Washington.

At the virtual event, Ryan Murphy, Jo Ellen Pellman and Ariana Debose will also speak about the Unruly Hearts Initiative, encouraging young audiences to support the LGBTQ+ community and advocate for trusted organizations.

Set in Indiana, The Prom follows Broadway stars who try to resurrect their careers by helping a teenager who wants to go to the prom with her girlfriend. The Prom made its Broadway premiere in 2018 at the Longacre Theatre, where it ran for ten months.

In a review of Netflix's The Prom, Suzy Evans said: "much of the story soars better onscreen in Murphy's technicolor vision that flashes across the screen, mixing heightened musical sequences with heartfelt scenes. You truly feel the longing to be a part of a community and be accepted for who you are."
