Is the Bombshell stage musical finally in the works?
Finally some good news for the fans of the Broadway-centric NBC series SMASH! The show's bio-musical Bombshell, based on the life of Marilyn Monroe, is reportedly now in development as a full stage musical for the Great White Way.
Following the success of the Bombshell benefit concert on Monday, 8th June 2015 at the Minskoff Theatre, which sold out in record time, Universal Stage Productions (the force behind such hits as 'Wicked' and 'Billy Elliot') has announced that a full musical staging is in the works. 'Smash' executive producers Craig Zadan, Neil Meron and Steven Spielberg are also attached to the project, along with the show's music and lyrics team of Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman.
Joshua Bergasse, who won an Emmy Award for his work on 'Smash' and who also recently co-directed the benefit concert, will also serve as choreographer for the stage musical.
There is no news yet on casting, a timeline or possible venue, but fans are certainly hoping that the cast will include some 'Smash' alumni, which include Megan Hilty, Katharine McPhee, Christian Borle, Debra Messing, Anjelica Huston, Jack Davenport, Brian d'Arcy James, Jeremy Jordan, Leslie Odom Jr., Krysta Rodriguez, and Andy Mientus.
Bombshell's score includes the hit songs "Let Me Be Your Star," "The 20th Century Fox Mambo," "Mr. & Mrs. Smith," "Hang the Moon," and "Don't Forget Me."
