High to close 24 Apr, one week after opening

The Broadway premiere of Matthew Lombardo's High, starring two-time Golden Globe winner, Academy Award & Tony Award nominee Kathleen Turner, has posted early closing notices, and will play its final performance on 24 Apr 2011 - just one week after opening.

When the show closes it will have played 28 previews and 8 regular performances.

High opened at the Booth Theatre on 19 Apr 2011, following previews from 25 Mar 2011, and was selling tickets through to 24 Apr 2011.

The drama opened to mostly negative reviews, though Turner's performance was praised by most critics: The script doesn't live up to the story, sadly, and neither does most of the acting. While Turner shines in the brittle light, she seems lost in the morass of nuances she is asked to convey. (newyorktheatreguide.com); Turner does her best to bring warmth and intelligence to the brass-knuckled nun, but this troubled saint remains a flimsy character in a hollow play. (Variety); The fun is watching Turner, ..., deliver devastating putdowns. (The Record).

High explores the universal themes of truth, forgiveness, redemption and human fallibility. When Sister Jamison Connelly (Turner) agrees to sponsor a 19 year-old drug user in an effort to help him combat his addiction, her own faith is ultimately tested. Struggling between the knowledge she possesses as a rehabilitation counselor and a woman of religious conviction, she begins to question her belief in miracles and whether people can find the courage to change.

Directed by Rob Ruggiero, High also features Stephen Kunken (Enron) as 'Father Michael Delpapp' and Evan Jonigkeit as 'Cody Randall.'

The design team for High includes Tony Award winners David Gallo (Sets) & Jess Goldstein (Costumes), John Lasiter (Lights) and Vincent Olivieri (Sound & Original Compositions).

This Broadway premiere of The design team for High follows a collaboration of three American regional theaters. In Jul 2010, the play premiered at TheaterWorks in Hartford, Connecticut, followed by the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park in Sep 2010 and The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis in Oct 2010.

High is produced on Broadway by Leonard Soloway, Chase Mishkin, Terry Schnuck, Ann Cady Scott, Timothy J. Hampton, James & Catherine Berges, Craig Schnuck, Barbara & Buddy Freitag, Lauren Class Schneider, David Mirvish, Gene Fisch, Jr./Stu Sternbach, David Fagin/Rosalind Resnick, Jacki Barlia Florin/Michael A. Alden, Lizabeth Zindel, The Shubert Organization and The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis.
