Glengarry Glen Ross: Murphy Guyer completes cast

Murphy Guyer completes the cast of the Broadway revival of David Mamet's Pulitzer Prize-winning play Glengarry Glen Ross. He will be playing the role of 'Detective Baylen.'

Directed by Daniel Sullivan, Glengarry Glen Ross opens at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre on 11 Nov 2012, following previews from 16 Oct 2012, playing a limited engagement through to 30 Dec 2012.

Guyer will join the previously announced two-time Tony Award winner Al Pacino (Shelly Levene), Tony Award-nominee Bobby Cannavale (Richard 'Ricky' Roma), Tony Award-nominee David Harbour (John Williamson), Tony Award-nominee Jeremy Shamos (James Lingk), Emmy Award winner Richard Schiff (George Aaronow) and John C. McGinley ("Scrubs").

Guyer last appeared on Broadway in 'Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown.' His Other Broadway credits are 'South Pacific,' 'The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial' and 'The Graduate.' Off-Broadway credits: 'Swimming in the Shallows,' 'World of Mirth,' 'Minor Demons,' 'The Misanthrope' and 'Eden Court.' TV credits include: "Mildred Pierce," "Rubicon," "Law & Order" and "Oz."

This production marks the 30th year anniversary of Glengarry Glen Ross, which Mamet wrote in 1982. It premiered in the 1983-1984 season at the Royal National Theatre in London. That same year, it made its American debut at Chicago's Goodman Theatre before moving to Broadway's Golden Theatre where it ran for a total of 378 performances.

The play slices to the core of the American dream and exposes the depths people will go to stay on top of the game. Mamet himself worked in a real estate office in Chicago in 1969 setting up appointments for salesmen, and the play is influenced by the cutthroat politics he encountered.

The revival is being produced on Broadway by Jeffrey Richards, Jerry Frankel, and Jam Theatricals who produced the 2005 Tony Award winning revival and subsequently worked with Mamet, producing 'November,' 'Speed-The-Plow,' 'A Life in The Theatre' and 'Race.' Richards and Frankel will be producing the new David Mamet play, 'The Anarchist' this fall on Broadway.

The play was nominated for a Tony for Best Play when it premiered on Broadway in 1984. Directed by Gregory Mosher it starred Robert Prosky - in a Tony nominated role - as 'Shelly Levene.'

It was revived in 2005, directed by Joe Mantello, and starred Alan Alda as 'Shelly Levene.' The production won the 2005 Tony Award for best revival and earned Alda a Tony nomination. Jeffrey Richards was also one of this production's lead producers.

The creative team includes set design by Eugene Lee and costume design by Jess Goldstein.
