Sonia Friedman and Scott Rudin will present the Broadway transfer of the popular London production of 1984, which will open its limited engagement at the Hudson Theatre on June 22, 2017.

Based on the best-selling 1949 novel by George Orwell, the new stage adaptation was created by Robert Icke and Duncan Macmillan and originally produced by Headlong, Nottingham Playhouse, and the Almeida Theatre. The production has already played four engagements in the UK.

1984 depicts a dystopian future where critical thought is suppressed under a totalitarian regime. The chilling thriller has sold more than 30 million copies across the globe and has been translated into more than 65 languages.

The creative team behind 1984 features scenic & costume design by Chloe Lamford, lighting design by Natasha Chivers, sound design by Tom Gibbons, and video design by Tim Reid.

Casting for the Broadway transfer will be announced at a later date.
