   Hunter Foster

Hunter Foster, is to star as Dr Victor Frankenstein in the new Off-Broadway musical adaptation of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, which is to open at 37 Arts Theatre on 1 Nov 2007, following previews from 10 Oct 2007. The musical is currently selling tickets through to 6 Jan 2008.

Frankenstein has a score by Mark Baron, text and lyrics by Jeffrey Jackson, and is adapted from Mary Shaelley's novel by Gary P. Cohen, and is directed by Bill Fennelly, with choreography by Kelly Devine.

The timeless, cautionary tale of Victor Frankenstein, whose noble dreams of grandeur, unlocking the mysetery of life, unleash instead a litany of terror and tragedy. Before it is done, everything in his privileged world will be torn asunder, as Victor and his Creature are pit against one another in an epic and deadly war of wills that will lead them across the continent and ultimately to the barren ends of the world.

The musical is opening just a few blocks from the Hilton Theatre, where Hunter's sister, Sutton Foster, is to play Inga in Mel brook's new Broadway musical comedy, Young Frankenstein, opening on the 11 Oct 2007.

In a statement Foster said "This role excites me. It's like nothing I have done before and I am thrilled for the challenge. The story is a significant part of my childhood. I loved the 'Frankenstein' movies. I couldn't get enough of them. Mark and Jeffrey have written such a terrific adaptation. I can't wait to dive into rehearsal."

Hunter Foster was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for his performance as Seymour in 'Little Shop of Horrors' (2003). His other Broadway credits include playing Leo Bloom in 'The Producers' (2001), Footloose (1998), Grease (1994 revival) and Les Misrables (1987). He last appeared Off-Broadway at the Barrow Street Theatre in 'an oak tree' (2006).

The musical is being produced by Douglas C. Evans, Gerald Goehring and Michael F. Mitri, in association with Barbara & Emery Olcott and David S. Stone.
