Far From Heaven extends run by one week

Playwrights Horizons (PH) World Premiere production of the musical Far From Heaven, starring four-time Tony Award nominee Kelli O'Hara, extends its run by one week and will now run through to 07 Jul 2013.

Far From Heaven, currently in previews, opens at the Playwrights Horizons' Mainstage on 02 Jun 2013. The musical was originally scheduled to close on 30 Jun 2013.

Cathy Whitaker (O'Hara) seems to be the picture-perfect wife and mother in 1957 suburban Connecticut. But roiling beneath the surface, secret longings and forbidden desires cause her world to unravel, with incendiary consequences. Far From Heaven is a story of romance, betrayal and intolerance, as a woman grapples with her identity in a society on the verge of upheaval.

Far From Heaven features a book by Tony Award winner and two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist Richard Greenberg ('Take Me Out,' 'Three Days of Rain' and 'The Assembled Parties'), music by Tony Award nominee Scott Frankel ('Grey Gardens' at PH and on Broadway, 'Finding Neverland') and lyrics by Tony Award nominee Michael Korie ('Grey Gardens' at PH and on Broadway, 'The Grapes of Wrath,' 'Finding Neverland').

Headlining the cast are four-time Tony Award nominee Kelli O'Hara ('The Light in the Piazza,' 'The Pajama Game,' 'South Pacific' and the current 'Nice Work If You Can Get It'), Steven Pasquale ('The Spitfire Grill' at PH, 'reasons to be pretty' on Broadway) and Isaiah Johnson ('Peter and the Starcatcher' 'The Merchant of Venice' on Broadway).

They are joined by J.B. Adams, Marinda Anderson, Nancy Anderson, Elainey Bass, Quincy Tyler Bernstine, Justin Scott Brown, Alma Cuervo, Korey Jackson, Jake Lucas, James Moye, Julianna Rigoglioso, Sarah Jane Shanks, Tess Soltau, Mary Stout and Victor Wallace.

The production is choreographed by Alex Sanchez ('Giant,' 'Fiorello!') and directed by three-time Tony Award nominee Michael Greif ('Grey Gardens' at PH and on Broadway, 'Rent,' 'Next to Normal,' 'Giant').

The creative team features set design by Allen Moyer, costumes by Catherine Zuber, lighting by Kenneth Posner and sound by Nevin Steinberg.

The musical is adapted from the 2002 film Far From Heaven , which was written and directed by Todd Haynes and starred Julianne Moore, Dennis Quaid and Dennis Haysbert. The movie was nominated for four Academy Awards.
