Everyday Rapture at Second Stage Theatre


Completing its 30th Anniversary Season, Second Stage Theatre will present Everyday Rapture, written by Dick Scanlan and Sherie Rene Scott, with direction by Michael Mayer.

Featuring a cast of five led by Sherie Rene Scott, Everyday Rapture will begin previews on 7 Apr 2009 and officially open in late April.

Everyday Rapture: The story of a young woman's psycho-sexual-spiritual journey on the rocky path that separates her mostly Mennonite past from her mostly Manhattan future. Her life takes her from the cornfields of Kansas to the clover fields of New York (with a disturbing detour through YouTube).

Sherie Rene Scott (Performer, Co-Author) currently stars on Broadway as 'Ursula' in The Little Mermaid. She was nominated for a Tony Award for her role as 'Christine' in 'Dirty Rotten Scoundrels' (2005). Other Broadway credits include 'Aida' (2000), 'Rent' (1996), 'Grease' (1994 revival) and 'The Who's Tommy' (1993). Scott last appeared off-Broadway playing 'Rosalie' in Signature Theatre Company' production of 'Landscape of the Body' for which she received both an Obie and a Lucille Lortel Award.

Dick Scanlan (Co-Author) was nominated for Tony awards for his book and lyrics for the Tony Award-winning Best Musical 'Thoroughly Modern Millie' (2002). He is the author of the novel 'Does Freddy Dance.' A former actor, Scanlan originated the role of' Miss Great Plains' in the Off-Broadway musical 'Pageant.'

Michael Mayer (Director) received a 2007 Tony Award for his direction of the Tony Award-winning Best Musical Spring Awakening, and has been nominated for Tony's for his direction of 'Thoroughly Modern Millie' (2002), 'You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown' (1999 revival) and 'A View From the Bridge' (1997 revival). Mayer last directed off-Broadway when he helmed the Atlantic Theater's production of '10 Million Miles.'
