Chaplin to play final performance on 6 Jan 2013



The Broadway premiere of Chaplin, a new musical depicting the life of film icon Charlie Chaplin, has posted early closing notices and will play its final perormance on 6 Jan 2012. The musical had been booking through to 03 Feb 2013.

The musical opened to mixed reviews: We come ... to see Chaplin, but what we get is an adorable, charming facsimile (newyorktheatreguide); It's modestly entertaining (New York Daily News); Dismally dull (Backstage); Fails to live up to its potential (Hollywood Reporter).

Mindy Rich on behalf of the producers said, "We are so disappointed to close this show. We've been moved by the countless theatergoers who have loved Chaplin as much as we do. We are so proud of our extraordinary cast and creative team, and Chaplin will live on through productions on our National Tour in 2014 and around the world."

Chaplin opened at the Barrymore Theatre on 10 Sep 2012, following previews from 21 Aug 2012, and had been booking through to 03 Feb 2013.

The brand new 22-person musical reveals the man behind the legend, the undeniable genius that forever changed the way America went to the movies.

Directed and choreographed by Warren Carlyle, the cast stars Rob McClure as 'Charlie Chaplin,' a role he originated for the musical's world premiere production at the La Jolla Playhouse, Jim Borstelmann (Alf Reeves), Jenn Colella (Hedda Hopper), Erin Mackey (Oona O'Neill), Michael McCormick (Sennett, McGranery, Emcee), Christiane Noll (Hannah Chaplin), Zachary Unger (Young Charlie, Jackie) and Wayne Alan Wilcox (Sydney Chaplin).

Chaplin features music and lyrics by Christopher Curtis and book by three-time Tony Award-winner Thomas Meehan ('Annie,' 'The Producers,' 'Hairspray') and Christopher Curtis.

The musical Chaplin arrived on Broadway following the popular success of a production at the La Jolla Playhouse in 2010, under the name Limelight.
