Cabaret Girl: Gripps and Gravvins are London song publishers and the producers of The All-Night Follies. Their shaky enterprise is really held together by their secretary, Effie.
Our hero, Jim, is land-rich but money poor and is so in love with cabaret girl Marilynn (Nanne Puritz) that he is willing to sacrifice a much-needed inheritance to marry her.
The trustees, his aunt Marchioness Harrogate, and his cousin the Marquis must be persuaded that the match is 'suitable'. Conspiring to bring about this union are the members of the cabaret troupe Harry Zona; Lily; Little Ada; the dance team of March and April; and their manager Feloosi.
The London success of Jerome Kern's 'Sally' prompted its producer to hop an ocean liner with P.G. Wodehouse and write a new show for Kern to musicalize. Although Cabaret Girl ran for over a year on the West End, it never came to New York. Songs include: You Want the Best Seats, We Have 'Em; Whoop-De-Oodle-Do; Dear Old London; Shimmy with Me; London, Dear Old London; Dancing Time; Chopin Ad-Lib.
