Birth After Birth: Sandy and Bill have been up all night preparing a birthday party for Nicky, their rambunctious four year-old son. Desperate to impress, Sandy and Bill frantically ready the house for their party guests, Jeffrey and Mia, childless anthropologists who study primitive children in far flung places. The party spins out of control as each couple tries to convince the other of their social and personal superiority.
Directed by Christian Parker, Birth After Birth features Kate Blumberg (Mia), Maggie Kiley (Sandy), Peter Benson (Jeffrey), Jeff Binder (Bill) and Jordan Gelber (Nicky).
Set design by Takeshi Kata, with costumes by Bobby Tilley, lighting by Joshua Bradford and sound by Obadiah Eves.
Birth After Birth was written in 1972. Over the last thirty years, it has been taught, anthologized and has had numerous secret and illegal productions. The comedy received its official world premiere production at the Wilma Theater in Philadelphia in September of 1995 and was produced subsequently at Washington�s Woolly Mammoth Theatre.
Tina Howe (Playwright) debuted at the Atlantic Theater Company in 2004 as translator of Eug�ne Ionesco�s The Bald Soprano and The Lesson. Her best known plays include Museum, The Art of Dining, Painting Churches, Coastal Disturbances and Pride�s Crossing.
