Becky Shaw extends its run by six weeks

Second Stage Theatre production of Gina Gionfriddo's comedy, Becky Shaw, directed by Peter DuBois, has extended its run by six weeks, now playing through to 15 Mar 2009.

A recent runaway hit of the Humana Festival show, Becky Shaw opened at Second Stage Theatre on 8 Jan 2009, following previews from 16 Dec 2008 and was originally scheduled to close on 1 Feb 2009.

The play opened to mixed, but mostly good reviews: "As engrossing as it is ferociously funny." (NY Times); "Fun for a while, but it gets exhausting." (NY Daily News); "Exerts a hypnotic pull" (NY Post); "Blithely cynical and devastatingly funny play." (Variety)

In Becky Shaw, a newlywed couple fixes up two romantically challenged friends: wife's best friend, meet husband's sexy and strange new co-worker. When an evening calculated to bring happiness takes a dark turn, crisis and comedy ensue in this wickedly funny new play that asks what we owe the people we love and the strangers who land on our doorstep.

The cast features David Wilson Barnes (reprising his acclaimed performance from the world premiere production at the Humana Festival), Emily Bergl, Kelly Bishop, Annie Parisse (who created the title role of Becky Shaw in the world premiere production at the Humana Festival) and Thomas Sadoski.

Becky Shaw will feature scenic design by Derek McLane, costume design by Jeff Mahshie, lighting design by David Weiner, and sound design by Walter Trarbach.
