American Girls at the 45th Street Theatre

Dog Run Rep in association with Pat Blake presents American Girls, by Hilary Bettis, opening at the 45th Street Theatre on 6 Apr 2008, following previews from 3 Apr and running through to - 27 Apr 2008.

American Girls, the story of two 14-year-old mid-western girls who are on a collision course with pop culture and faith.

Please note: American Girls has mature themes and may not be suitable for audiences under 14 years of age.

In her first play, Ms. Bettis draws on her experience working in the adult entertainment industry (in this case, strip clubs) to explore what would happen if innocent 14-year-old girls, growing up in Americas heartland, rationalized their love of Jesus with an obsessive desire for fame.

According to director Jeff Cohen, Hilary manages to capture a cultural collision girls caught between the Faith-based culture and the Sex industry. Like Christopher Shinns Four and Tristine Skylers The Moonlight Room, Ms. Bettis is an exciting, authentic new playwriting voice.

Directed by Jeff Cohen, American Girls features Hilary Bettis and Kira Sternbach.

The design team comprises Ryan Kravitz (sets), Gail Cooper-Hecht (costumes) and Evan Purcell (lighting).
