All My Sons has recouped its $3.25 million capitalization
The Broadway revival Arthur Miller's All My Sons has recouped it $3.25 million capitalization. This marks the highest capitalization of a commercial play ever to be recouped.
All My Sons began previews on 18 Sep 2008 and opened on 16 Oct 2008 at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre. The limited engagement ends as scheduled on 11 Jan 2009.
The cast of All My Sons, directed by Simon McBurney, stars John Lithgow, Dianne Wiest, Patrick Wilson, Katie Holmes and also features Becky Ann Baker, Christian Camargo, Jordan Gelber, Danielle Ferland, Damian Young and Michael Dï¿½Addario.
The drama opened to mixed reviews: "Left me stone cold, despite some electric moments from a very fine Mr. Lithgow and Mr. Wilson." (NY Times); "The final 20 minutes of "All My Sons" are as powerful and plain-spoken as dramas get." (NY Daily News); "Too much of the acting is two-dimensional, at best." All My Sons: Joe and Kate Keller lost their eldest son three years ago in the war, but Kate cannot give up believing that he is still alive. Chris, their only surviving son, has fallen in love with his brotherï¿½s fiancï¿½e Ann, and brings her to the Keller home to tell his parents of their new relationship and their plans to marry. In the confrontation that follows, cracks begin to appear in everyone's stories, lies are exposed, and a secret is revealed that could destroy them all.
The creative team features set and costume design by Tom Pye, and is being produced on Broadway by Eric Falkenstein.
All My Sons first played on Broadway in 1947 and won two Tony Awards, that production starred Ed Begley as 'Joe Keller'. The drama was revived in 1987 and won a Tony Award for Best Revival. That production earned Richard Kiley a Tony nomination for his portrayal of 'Joe Keller.'
