2024 Lucille Lortel Award nominations announced

Annually celebrating the best of Off-Broadway theatre, this year's Lortels honored two shows now running on Broadway: Hell's Kitchen and Stereophonic.

Nominations have been announced for the 2024 Lucille Lortel Awards, which honor the best of Off-Broadway theatre each year, ahead of the awards ceremony on May 5.

This year's nominations were announced by Amber Iman and George Abud, stars of the new Broadway musical Lempicka. A total of 39 productions were nominated, including two shows that have since moved to Broadway and are currently running there: Alicia Keys's musical Hell's Kitchen and David Adjmi's '70s rock-inspired play Stereophonic.

The most nominated play this year was John J. Casewell's Wet Brain, which premiered in spring 2023, with eight nominations. The most nominated musical was Buena Vista Social Club, which premiered in fall 2023 and got seven nominations. Stereophonic also received seven nominations.

In addition to the competitive awards, there are three honorary prizes being given out: the Lifetime Achievement Award for performer/writer/director Ruben Santiago-Hudson, the Playwrights’ Sidewalk Inductee award for Dominique Morisseau, and the award for Outstanding Body of Work for the OFf-Broadway theatre company Ars Nova.
