‘A Sherlock Carol’ to return to New York in 2022
The show is currently playing a limited holiday engagement off Broadway.
The Christmas spirit(s) will be back next year! The new holiday play A Sherlock Carol, which is currently running at New World Stages through January 2, announced plans for another New York engagement in the 2022 holiday season.
"Thanks to the warm embrace from New York City this show is poised to be a spirited, perennial favorite, a new holiday tradition," producers Raymond Bokhour, Drew McVety, and Laura Z. Barket said in a joint statement. "Just like Christmas itself, we intend to return year after year and spread joy."
A Sherlock Carol, written and directed by Mark Shanahan, is a mashup of Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes series and A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. Years after the events of Dickens's story, Ebenezer Scrooge has mysteriously died, and an adult Tiny Tim enlists Sherlock Holmes to investigate. Now that his own foe, Moriarty, has also died, Holmes accepts the job, needing a new purpose. As he's working the case on Christmas Eve, Holmes is visited by the ghosts of past, present, and future like Scrooge before him.
A Sherlock Carol began performances on November 11, marking the show's Off-Broadway debut. The New York Theatre Guide review calls the show an "inventive" take on A Christmas Carol and reads, "Fans of both stories may find pleasure in knowing that content doesn't stray too far from the originals."
The current cast features Drew McVety, Thom Sesma, Isabel Keating, Dan Domingues, Anissa Felix, and Mark Price.
