Paul Thornley to return as Ron Weasley in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on Broadway

The "Year 3" cast of the Tony Award-winning 'Best Play' begins performances at the Lyric Theatre on March 18, 2020.

Original West End and Broadway cast member Paul Thornley is returning to J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World this spring. He is set to reprise the role of Ron Weasley in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child: Parts One and Two at the Lyric Theatre from March 18, 2020.

Also joining the Broadway cast is Brady Dalton Richards, who assumes the role of Scorpius Malfoy. In addition, currest cast members James Romney and Aaron Bartz will both step up and take over the roles of Albus Potter and Draco Malfoy, respectively. Current principal cast members who have extended their contracts include James Snyder (as Harry Potter), Diane Davis (as Ginny Potter), Jenny Jules (as Hermione Granger), and Nadia Brown (as Rose Granger-Weasley).

Matt Mueller, Nicholas Podany, Jonno Roberts, and Bubba Weiler are all set to play their final performances (as Ron Weasley, Albus Potter, Draco Malfoy, and Scorpius Malfoy, respectively) on March 15, 2020.

New additions to the ensemble include Gabriel Amoroso, Quinn Blades, Michela Cannon, Judith Lightfoot Clarke, Malcolm Fuller, Stephanie Gomérez, Jax Jackson, Spencer LaRue, Dan Piering, Alex Michael Stoll and Maya Thomas.

Based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the eighth story in the Harry Potter series, set 19 years after the last Rowling novel "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" and the first official stage production of the Harry Potter franchize. The play is performed in two parts with the option for audience members to attend either both parts in the same day or on seperate days.

The Broadway premiere began previews at the Lyric Theatre on March 16, 2018, ahead of an official opening on April 22 to rave reviews.

Synopsis: "It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn't much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children. While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places."

Under the direction of John Tiffany, the creative team behind Harry Potter and the Cursed Child features music & arrangements by Imogen Heap, music supervision & arrangements by Martin Lowe, movement by Steven Hoggett, scenic design by Christine Jones, costume design by Katrina Lindsay, lighting design by Neil Austin, sound design by Gareth Fry, and illusions & magic by Jamie Harrison.

The world premiere of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child officially opened at London's Palace Theatre on July 30, 2016, following previews from June 7, and went on to make Olivier Awards history in April 2017 by scooping a record-breaking nine awards, including 'Best New Play.' The Broadway production took home a total of six Tony Awards in 2018, including 'Best Play.'

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is produced on Broadway by Sonia Friedman, Colin Callender and J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter Theatrical Productions.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Tickets are available now for performances through July 5, 2020.
