Nick Robinson to make Broadway debut in To Kill a Mockingbird

Robinson will assume the role of Jem Finch at the Shubert Theatre from November 5, 2019.

"Love, Simon" star Nick Robinson is set to make his Broadway debut as he takes over the role of Jem Finch in the critically acclaimed production of Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird in November.

Mr. Robinson, who starred in the Netflix film "Love, Simon" actually made his stage debut aged 12 in a Seattle Intiman Theatre production of To Kill a Mockingbird, also as Jem Finch during the tenure of Bartlett Sher, who directs the current Broadway production. He will join the smash hit play on November 5, 2019, the same date Ed Harris is scheduled to join the cast and take over from current star, Jeff Daniels.

The play, which has been adapted for the stage by Aaron Sorkin, began performances at the Shubert Theatre on November 1, 2018, to critical acclaim, and has played to 100% capacity at every single performance, breaking its own box office record seven times over. It holds the title of highest-grossing American play in Broadway history.

Based on an event that occurred near her hometown of Monroeville, Alabama in the 1930s, Harper Lee's story of racial injustice and the destruction of childhood innocence centers on small-town lawyer and single father Atticus Finch (modeled after Lee's father, attorney Amasa Lee), his young daughter Scout, her older brother Jem, and their mysterious neighbor, the reclusive Arthur 'Boo' Radley. Written during the early stages of the Civil Rights Movement - at a time when Jim Crow laws were still in effect in many Southern states - Lee's novel held a mirror to the culture of racism of the Deep South.

The cast will include Harris as Atticus Finch, Tony Award winner Celia Keenan-Bolger as his daughter Scout, LaTanya Richardson Jackson as caretaker and housekeeper Calpurnia, Gideon Glick as visiting friend Dill, Danny Wolohan as reclusive neighbour Arthur "Boo" Radley. Other cast members include Frederick Weller, Gbenga Akinnagbe, Manoel Felciano, Dakin Matthews and Erin Wilhelmi.

The creative team behind To Kill a Mockingbird features original music by Adam Guettel, scenic design by Miriam Buether, costume design by Ann Roth, lighting design by Jennifer Tipton, and sound design by Scott Lehrer.

To Kill a Mockingbird is produced on Broadway by Scott Rudin, Barry Diller, and Lincoln Center Theater.

To Kill a Mockingbird Tickets are available now for performances through April 19, 2020.
