Helen Hunt leads starry cast of Encores! Off-Center's Working: A Musical

The Encores! Off-Center production of Working: A Musical plays New York City Center from June 26 to 29, 2019.

Casting has now been confirmed for the previously announced Encores! Off Center production of Working: A Musical which is scheduled to play New York City Center's Mainstage from June 26 to June 29, 2019, coinciding with the theatre’s 75th anniversary.

The cast includes (in alphabetical order) Andrea Burns, Mateo Ferro, David Garrison, Helen Hunt, Christopher Jackson, Javier Muñoz, and Tracie Thoms.

Directed by Encores! Off-Center Artistic Director Anne Kauffman, the production is an updated version of Nina Fasso and Stephen Schwartz’s adaptation of the best-selling book by Studs Terkel, with additional contributions by Gordon Greenberg. It features songs by Craig Carnelia, Micki Grant, Mary Rodgers and Susan Birkhead, and James Taylor, alongside two new songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Synopsis: "Working: A Musical evokes the unsung nobility of American workers. From the hardworking waitress to the worn out millworker, this musical exalts the hopes, dignity, and sense of purpose shared by each one of us. A living, breathing testament to the people who make this country run, the Off-Center production will incorporate stories from City Center’s employees in celebration of the 75th Anniversary Season, acting as a time capsule for the landmark occasion."

The creative team features music direction by Alvin Hough, Jr. and choreography by Avihai Haham.

The 2019 Encores! Off-Center season also features Promenade, performed for two nights only on July 10 and July 11, and Road Show, which is set to play the Mainstage from July 24 to July 27, 2019.
