Date and Special Honorees set for 34th Annual Lucille Lortel Awards

The 34th Annual Lucille Lortel Awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, May 5, 2019 at NYU Skirball Center.

The Off-Broadway League has announced details for The 34th Annual Lucille Lortel Awards, celebrating Outstanding Achievement Off-Broadway during the 2018-2019 season. The ceremony will be held once again at NYU Skirball Center, taking place on Sunday, May 5, 2019.

The 2018-2019 Off-Broadway season officially ends on March 31, 2019, with nominations for the Lucille Lortel Awards to be announced on April 3. The Nominees' Breakfast will be held on April 24.

In addition, the 2019 Special Honorees have also been revealed:

Outstanding Body of Work AwardTelsey + Company, the award-winning casting agency, founded in 1988, will be honored for its long-standing contribution to the Off-Broadway scene. Recent productions have included Be More Chill, Carmen Jones, and Alice By Heart.

Edith Oliver Service to Off-Broadway Award: Off-Broadway League President Terry Byrne will be honored for his 35 years working in the NYC theatre industry, including 28 years as General Manager of off-Broadway's Westside Theatre. Additionally, she has served as the Board of Directors of the Off-Broadway League since 1993, as Chair of the Off-Broadway Chapter of the Broadway Green Alliance, and as a member of the Administration and Host Committees for the Lucille Lortel Awards. In June 2018, she also became the first female president of the Off-Broadway League in its 60-year history.

Playwrights' Sidewalk: Cuban-American avant garde playwright and director María Irene Fornés will be inducted posthumously. During the 1960s, she was celebrated as a leading figure of the Off-Off-Broadway movement and her most notable works include Promenade, The Successful Life of 3, Fefu and Her FriendsMud, SaritaDrowningLetters from Cuba, and her 1990 Pulitzer Prize finalist play What of the Night?

The 34th Annual Lucille Lortel Awards are produced by the Off-Broadway League by special arrangement with the Lucille Lortel Theatre Foundation and supported by TDF.
