Women or Nothing: Atlantic announces cast
Atlantic Theater Company has announced that Robert Beitzel, Halley Feiffer ('The House of Blue Leaves'), Obie Award winner Susan Pourfar ('Tribes') and Tony Award nominee Deborah Rush ('Noises Off,' "Big Lake") will star in the world premiere production of Academy Award winner Ethan Coen's first full length play Women or Nothing, staged by director David Cromer ('The House of Blue Leaves,' 'Brighton Beach Memoirs.'
Women or Nothing will open at the Linda Gross Theater on 16 Sep 2013, following previews from 28 Aug 2013, and run through to 06 Oct 2013.
Women or Nothing is a comedy about two women so desperate to have a child that one of them will even sleep with a man. Who the man is, what he thinks is going on, what the women think about what he thinks, and what the mother of one of the women reveals about her own colorful past-it all defies belief. Why then does it all make sense?
The creative team features scenic design by Michele Spadaro, costume design by Sarah Laux, lighting design by Bradley King and sound design by Daniel Kluger.
Academy Award winning filmmaker Ethan Coen ("No Country for Old Men") returns to Atlantic to open the season with his fourth world premiere, and first full length play, following his productions of 'Almost an Evening,' 'Offices' and 'Happy Hour.' He has made fifteen movies with his brother Joel, including the Academy Award winning "No Country for Old Men" and "Fargo," and the Academy Award nominated "True Grit," "A Serious Man" and "O Brother, Where Art Thou?"
Director David Cromer recently staged the Off Broadway productions of 'Nikolai and the Others,' 'Really Really' and 'Tribes. 'He was honored with both the Lucille Lortel and Obie Award for his staging of the Off-Broadway production of 'Our Town,' in which he also starred as the Stage Manager. Broadway credits include the revivals of 'Brighton Beach Memoirs' and 'The House of the Blue Leaves.' His production of 'Adding Machine: A Chamber Musical,' transferred Off-Broadway from his native Chicago, garnering him an Obie Award and Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Direction.
Robert Beitzel most recently appeared Off-Broadway in 'In Masks Outrageous and Austere' and David Cromer's production of 'Our Town.' Halley Feiffer received a Theatre World Award for her Broadway debut performance in 'The House of the Blue Leaves.' Susan Pourfar starred Off-Broadway in 'Tribes,' for which she received Obie and Theatre World Awards, and can currently be seen on the hit ABC series "Scandal." Tony Award nominee Deborah Rush most recently appeared in the Encores! production of 'Gentlemen Prefer Blondes,' on Broadway in 'Blithe Spirit' and on television in the new hit series "Orange is the New Black."
