Wicked: David Burnham assumes the role of 'Fiyero'

 

David Burnham assumes the role of 'Fiyero' in the Broadway musical Wicked this evening (8 Jan 2008). He asumes the role from Sebastian Arcelus who played his final performance on 16 Dec 2007. The role of Fiyero was played by Derrick Williams during the interregnum.

Burnham created the role of Fiyero in the original LA workshops production of the musical opposite Stephanie J. Block as Elphaba and Lenny Wolpe as The Wizard. Burnham made his Broadway debut as an ensemble member of 'The Light in the Piazza' (2005) in which he also understudied for the role of 'Fabrizio'

Burnham is the third member of the LA workshop production currently appearing on Broadway, the other two are Stephanie J. Block as Elphaba and Lenny Wolpe as The Wizard.

The cast also currently features Annaleigh Ashford (Glinda), Carole Shelley (Madame Morrible), Cristy Candler (Nessarose), Steven Skybell (Doctor Dillamond, Witch�s Father) and Logan Lipton (Boq).

Wicked opened at the Gershwin Theatre on the 30 Oct 2003, following previews from 8 Oct 2003, and is currently booking through to 9 Nov 2008.

Long before Dorothy drops in, two other girls meet in the land of Oz. One, born with emerald-green skin, is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. Wicked tells the story of their remarkable odyssey, how these two unlikely friends grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch.

Wicked has music & lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, book by Winnie Holzman, based on the novel by Gregory Maguire.

The musical is directed by Joe Mantello, with choreography by James Lynn Abbott, scene design by Eugene Lee, costumes by Susan Hilferty, lighting by Kenneth Posner and sound by Tony Meola.
