Vineyard: The Landing and Arlington

The Vineyard Theatre has announced that the musical Arlington will be the third production of their 2013-2014 season, and casting for their world premiere of the musical The Landing.

Tony and Emmy Award-winner David Hyde Pierce ('Curtains,' 'Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike,' "Frasier"), Julia Murney ('Wicked'), and Emmy Award nominee Paul Anthony Stewart ("Guiding Light") comprise the cast of The Landing, a world premiere musical with book and lyrics by Greg Pierce ('Slowgirl'), music by the Tony Award-winning composer John Kander ('Chicago,' 'Cabaret' ' The Scottsboro Boys'), and directed by Tony Award-winner Walter Bobbie ('Chicago,' 'Venue in Fur').

The Landing will begin performances at The Vineyard in October 2013.

Directed by Walter Bobbie, The Landing consists of three thematically-connected tales of desire, love, and loss, and is the first collaboration between theatre composer John Kander and playwright Greg Pierce.

The Landing continues Kander's artistic relationship with The Vineyard Theatre, dating back to 1987 when The Vineyard produced a revival of 'Flora The Red Menace,' the musical by Kander and his longtime collaborator, the late Fred Ebb. In 2010, The Vineyard produced the world-premiere of the Kander's and Ebb's musical 'The Scottsboro Boys,' which transferred to Broadway and will open in London this fall.

The Landing returns for this full production at The Vineyard following a Lab Production there in the spring 2012.

The season will continue with the New York premiere of Arlington, a new musical that follows Sara Jane, a young wife who valiantly tries to remain positive while her husband is away at war, despite a growing belief that something is not quite right.

Arlington is a new musical from award winning playwright/novelist Victor Lodato ('Motherhouse,' 'The Eviction' and the novel 'Mathilda Savitch') and Vineyard Theatre alum Polly Pen ('Goblin Market,' 'Bed and Sofa'). An inaugural one-act version of Arlington was commissioned and presented by PREMIERES (Paulette Haupt, Artistic Director).

The world premiere of the full length version will be produced at San Francisco's Magic Theatre in the fall of 2013 before its New York premiere at the Vineyard in February 2014.

The season will conclude with the previously announced world premiere play Too Much Sun, written by Nicky Silver and directed by Mark Brokaw.

Too Much Sun marks the eighth world premiere production of Nicky Silver's plays produced by the Vineyard. The prior productions include 'Pterodactyls,' 'Raised in Captivity,' and 'The Miaden's Prayer.' Too Much Sun reunites Silver and director Mark Brokaw (Broadway's 'Cinderella'), who recently collaborated on 'The Lyons,' which received its world premiere at The Vineyard before transferring to Broadway last season.

In Too Much Sun, Audrey Langham, a celebrated actress, unravels completely while preparing for a new production of Medea, and with nowhere else to go, she descends upon her married daughter for a summer by the sea. Her arrival sets off a chain of unforeseen events. Performances will begin in May 2014.
