Tom Sturridge to lead 1984 at Broadway's Hudson Theatre
Casting has been announced for the upcoming Broadway production of 1984 which begins a limited engagement at the Hudson Theatre on May 18, 2017, with an opening night on June 22, 2017.
Sonia Friedman and Scott Rudin present the Broadway transfer of Orwell's classic novel, adapted and directed by Robert Icke and Duncan Macmillan. The show lands on Broadway following four engagements in the West End including runs at the Almeida Theatre in north London.
Tom Sturridge, Olivia Wilde and Reed Birney will lead the cast of the Broadway Premiere in the roles of Winston Smith, Julia and O'Brien. They will be joined by Wayne Duvall (Parsons), Carl Hendrick Louis (Martin), Nick Mills (Syme), Michael Potts (Charrington), and Cara Seymour (Mrs. Parsons).
Based on the best-selling 1949 novel by George Orwell, 1984 depicts a dystopian future where critical thought is suppressed under a totalitarian regime. The chilling thriller has sold more than 30 million copies across the globe and has been translated into more than 65 languages.
The creative team behind 1984 features scenic & costume design by Chloe Lamford, lighting design by Natasha Chivers, sound design by Tom Gibbons, and video design by Tim Reid.
