Tom Stoppard's Indian Ink Announces Full Cast
The Roundabout Theatre Company has announced full casting for their upcoming off-Broadway premiere of Tom Stoppard's Indian Ink, directed by Carey Perloff, opening at the Laura Pels Theatre on 28 Sep 2014, following previews from 04 Sep 2014.
Joining the previously announced Rosemary Harris as 'Eleanor Swan' will be Firdous Bamji ('Nikrad Das'), Bill Buell ('Englishman'), Nick Choksi ('Dilip'), Romola Garai ('Flora Crewe'), Neal Huff ('Eldon Pike'), Caroline Lagerfelt ('Englishwoman'), Omar Maskati ('Nazrul'), Tim McGeever ('Resident'), Brenda Meaney ('Nell), Philip Mills ('Eric'), Ajay Naidu ('Coomaraswami') Bhavesh Patel ('Anish Das'), Lee Aaron Rosen ('David Durance') and Rajeev Varma ('Rajah/Politician').
Set on two different continents and in two different eras, Indian Ink follows free-spirited English poet Flora Crewe on her travels through India in the 1930s, where her intricate relationship with an Indian artist unfurls against the backdrop of a country seeking its independence. Fifty years later, in 1980s England, her younger sister Eleanor tries to preserve the legacy of Flora's controversial career. Little by little, Flora's mysterious past is revealed, as is the surprising story of two people whose connection lives on through art.
Th Roundabout has previously produced Tomy Stoppard's 'The Real Inspector Hound' and 'The Fifteen Minute Hamlet' on Broadway as a double bill. Harris was last seen on the Roundabout stage in 'The Road to Mecca' (2011) and 'All Over' (2002).
Rosemary Harris won a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play for her performance in 'The Lion in Winter,' and was nominated for her performances in 'The Royal Family' (in both the 1976 and 2010 productions), 'Waiting in the Wings,' 'A Delicate Balance,' 'Hay Fever,' 'Pack of Lies,' 'Heartbreak House' and 'Old Times.' She was also nominated for an Academy Award for her role as "Rose Haigh-Wood" in "Tom & Viv." She is known to fans of the original Spider-man movie trilogy for her role as "Aunt May."
The Roundabout Theatre Company will also present Tom Stoppard's The Real Thing in their 2014/15 Broadway season, starring Ewan McGregor, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Josh Hamilton & Cynthia Nixon, directed by Sam Gold.
