To Kill a Mockingbird to play Madison Square Garden

Aaron Sorkin's record-breaking stage adapation of Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird is set to make history... again! The smash hit production is already the highest-grossing American play in Broadway history and soon it will also become the first-ever Broadway play to be performed at perform at New York City's Madison Square Garden aka 'The World's Most Famous Arena.'

On February 26, 2020, the entire Broadway cast, led by Tony and four-time Academy Award nominee Ed Harris as Atticus Finch, will perfrom Mockingbird in a free event with an audience of approximately 18,000 New York City public school students.

Schools Chancellor Richard A. Carranza commented: "This is an incredible, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and will undoubtedly have an indelible impact on our students for years to come. In New York City, we're making record investments in arts education, and we thank the producers, artists, and everyone at Madison Square Garden for their incredible generosity in bringing the arts to life for our school communities."

To Kill a Mockingbird, newly adapted for the stage by Academy Award winner Aaron Sorkin and directed by Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher, began previews at at the Shubert Theatre on November 1, 2018, ahead of an official opening on December 13.

Alongside Mr. Harris, the current Broadway cast includes Nina Grollman (as Scout Finch), Nick Robinson (as Jem Finch), Taylor Trensch (as Dill Harris), Kyle Scatliffe (as Tom Robinson), Patricia Conolly (as Mrs. Henry Dubose), Manoel Felciano (as Horace Gilmer), LisaGay Hamilton (as Calpurnia), Russell Harvard (as Link Deas and Boo Radley), Neal Huff (as Bob Ewell), Christopher Innvar (as Sheriff Heck Tate), Ted Koch (as Mr. Cunningham), Liv Rooth (as Miss Stephanie), Eliza Scanlen (as Mayella Ewell), M. Emmet Walsh (as Judge Taylor), and William Youmans (as Mr. Roscoe and Dr. Reynolds).

The ensemble include Baize BuzanRosalyn ColemanGene GilletteSteven Lee Johnson, David ManisAubie MerryleesGeoffrey Allen MurphyLuke SmithRebecca Watson, and Yaegel T. Welch.

Based on an event that occurred near her hometown of Monroeville, Alabama in the 1930s, Harper Lee's story of racial injustice and the destruction of childhood innocence centers on small-town lawyer and single father Atticus Finch (modeled after Lee's father, attorney Amasa Lee), his young daughter Scout, her older brother Jem, and their mysterious neighbor, the reclusive Arthur 'Boo' Radley. Written during the early stages of the Civil Rights Movement - at a time when Jim Crow laws were still in effect in many Southernstates - Lee's novel held a mirror to the culture of racism of the Deep South.

The creative team behind To Kill a Mockingbird features original music by Adam Guettel, scenic design by Miriam Buether, costume design by Ann Roth, lighting design by Jennifer Tipton, and sound design by Scott Lehrer.

To Kill a Mockingbird is produced on Broadway by Scott Rudin, Barry Diller, and Lincoln Center Theater.

To Kill a Mockingbird Tickets are available now for performances through September 6, 2020.
