The Vertical Hour to open at the Music Box


David Hare's new play, The Vertical Hour, will open on Broadway at the Music Box Theatre on the 30 Nov 2006.

The play will see Julianne Moore make her Broadway debut under the direction of Sam Mandes. Futher casting for the play is still to be announced.

In The Vertical Hour, Nadia Blye is a young American war correspondent turned academic who now teaches Political Studies at Yale. A brief holiday with her boyfriend in the Welsh borders brings her into contact with a kind of Englishman whose culture and beliefs are a surprise and a challenge, both to her and to her relationship.

The play will feature Set Design is by Scott Pask, costumes by Ann Roth and lighting by Brian MacDevitt. It will be produced on Broadway by Robert Fox, Neal Street Productions and Scott Rudin.

David Hare has had thirteen of his plays premiered by the National Theatre in London, and nine of his plays have been produced on Broadway, including Skylight with Michael Gambon, The Blue Room with Nicole Kidman, The Judas Kiss with Liam Neeson and Amy's View with Judi Dench. David Hare's play Stuff Happens is currently playing at the Public's Newman Theater.

Juliette Moore's many movies include The Forgotten, Laws of Attraction, The Prizewinner of Defiance, Ohio, Trust the Man, Marie and Bruce, Freedomland, Next, The Children of Men and The Shipping News - to name a few.

Sam Mendes founded and ran the highly regarded Donmar Warehouse in London from 1992 to 2002. He directed the Broadway productions of Cabaret, Gypsy and The Blue Room, and made his film directorial debut on American Beauty.
