The Thickness of Skin at the Barrow Group Theatre

The Barrow Group Theatre (TBG) Company begins their 23rd Anniversary Season with the American Premiere of Clare McIntyres The Thickness of Skin at the TBG Studio Theatre from 10 Oct - 11 Nov 2009.

When is help really help? - In an unjust world, how do we support each other without exploiting one another? Clare McIntyre asks, in The Thickness of Skin, in what ways are we responsible to help our fellow human beings, highlighting the humorous and humanistic side of life while encouraging us each to reflect and perhaps transform.

In The Thickness of Skin Laura chooses to help the displaced and out-of-work Eddie. A relationship blossoms and blurs the lines of charity and manipulation. Meanwhile, Roanna and Michael are struggling to understand their son Jonathan, on the cusp of adulthood, and his friendship with their eccentric neighbor, Imogen. Laura and her family must decide to what lengths they will go in order to help their fellow man.

Directed by Jacob White, The Thickness of Skin features Alison Wright (Laura), Michael Chenevert (Eddie), Myles OConnor (Michael), Karin Sibrava (Roanna), Wendy Vanden Heuvel (Imogen and Christine) and Eli Gelb (Jonathan).

Clare McIntyre is a decorated playwright, having received the Samuel Beckett Theatre Award, the London Evening Standard Award for Most Promising Playwright, and the London Critics Circle Award for Most Promising Playwright. In 1993, The Barrow Group produced her play Low Level Panic, which the New York Times dubbed a remarkably sensitive piece of witty writing that found the right director and cast.
