'The Shining City' replaces MTC's planned production of 'After Miss Julie'

Manhattan Theatre Club have announced that Conor McPhersons The Shining City has found its home on Broadway at MTCs Biltmore Theatre.

The production, which completes MTCs 2005-2006 Biltmore series, will open on the 3 May 2006, following previews from the 13 Apr 2006.

The Shining City will replace the previously announced production of Patrick Marbers After Miss Julie which the MTC now plan on producing next season.

Originally produced at Londons Royal Court Theater, The Shining City focuses on a guilt-ridden man who visits a therapist after seeing the ghost of his recently deceased wife. What starts out as an everyday exchange becomes a gripping struggle to survive a struggle that will change both men for the rest of their lives.

Further details regarding casting and creative team for The Shining City will be announced at a later date.

MTC co-produced Mr. McPhersons play The Weir, on Broadway in 1999.

An earlier planned production of The Shining City by Barry & Fran Weissler, Scott Rudin/Paramount Pictures Corporation, Roger Berlind and Debra Black was to open at the Schoenfeld Theatre on the 10 Nov 2005, starring Rufus Sewell and Stanley Townsend (original London cast member). It was announced in August that the production had been prosponed due to "certain critical production schedules."
