The Puppetmaster of Lodz at the ArcLight Theatre

Blue Heron Theatre and the Mirth A Theatre presents The Puppetmaster of Lodz, by Gilles Segal, translated by Sara O'Connor, opening the ArcLight Theatre on 3 Dec 2007, following previews from 30 Nov and running through to 23 Dec 2007.

The Puppetmaster of Lodz: Set in Berlin in 1950, is both a mystery story and a portrait of a noble man. Samuel Finkelbaum is a master puppeteer who has locked himself in an attic apartment and has remained there ever since his escape from a concentration camp. He is patiently awaiting the end of World War II, and nothing his landlady tells him will convince him that it's safe to come out. Inside this retreat, he creates a fantasy world with his puppets-and so unfolds a tale of love and creativity.

Directed by Bruce Levitt, The Puppetmaster of Lodz features Robert Zukerman (Samuel Finkelbaum), Daniel Damiano (Weissman and others), Suzanne Toren (Concierge) and Herbert Rubens (Schwartzkoff).

The creative team comprises Ralph Lee (puppet designer), Roman Tatarowicz (sets), Elizabeth Flauto (costumes), Paul Bartlett (lighting) and Chuck Hatcher (sound).
