
'The Outsiders' sets initial Broadway casting
The new musical is adapted from S. E. Hinton's same-named classic novel, and four of its lead cast members will reprise their roles from the pre-Broadway run.
UPDATE: Additional casting includes Joshua Boone as Dallas Winston, Emma Pittman as Cherry Valance, Daryl Tofa as Two-Bit Matthews, and Kevin William Paul as Bob Sheldon in his Broadway debut.
The Outsiders has set initial Broadway casting, with four of the lead performers announced. The musical adaptation of S. E. Hinton's novel begins performances at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre on March 16 ahead of an April 11 opening.
The Outsiders Broadway cast includes Brody Grant as Ponyboy, Sky Lakota-Lynch as Johnny, Brent Comer as Darrel, and Jason Schmidt as Sodapop. All four originated their roles in the musical's world premiere in La Jolla earlier this year, and all but Lakota-Lynch make their Broadway debuts with the show.
Additional casting has yet to be announced.
Directed by Danya Taymor, The Outsiders tells the story of a group of Tulsa "greasers," a teenage gang who find brotherhood and hope, if imperfect, in each other where they have little else.
The Outsiders also features a book by Adam Rapp with Justin Levine; music and lyrics by Jamestown Revival (Jonathan Clay and Zach Chance) and Levine; music supervision, arrangements, and orchestrations by Levine, choreography by Rick and Jeff Kuperman; scenography by AMP featuring Tatiana Kahvegian; costume design by Sarafina Bush; lighting design by Brian MacDevitt; sound design by Cody Spencer; projection design by Hana Kim; and music direction by Matt Hinkley.
